This comprehensive resource is a bibliography of over 1600 works from the last 50 years on the topic of language and education. It includes references for books, journal articles, book chapters and web-accessible dissertations, as well as abstracts for about a third of the entries. The focus is on the education of speakers of unstandardised vernacular varieties of English - such as African American (Vernacular) English, Latina/o Englishes and Australian Aboriginal English - and speakers of English-lexified pidgins and creoles - such as Tok Pisin and Jamaican Creole.
Research on language and education follows a wide range of approaches and covers a plethora of topics. What sets this volume apart from other bibliographies is that the references are classified according to one of more of 22 topics, each with a letter code. These are as follows:

The volume begins with an overview for each topic followed by a list of short citations (author and year) of the entries that deal with the topic. These overviews talk about the important issues and types of research in the topic. The main bibliography gives the full references alphabetically, each followed by relevant topic letter codes. If the reference concentrates on a particular type of variety, a number code is also given, as follows:

A very useful bibliographic resource

I recently posted a brief customer review about Marco Mostert's massive BIBLIOGRAPHY OF WORKS ON MEDIEVAL COMMUNICATION (Brepols, 2012), a bibliography in which some of my publications about Walter Ong's work and literacy have generously been listed, even though I am not a medievalist.
As a follow up to that customer review, I now turn my attention to the handy bibliography titled AFRICAN AMERICAN, CREOLE, AND OTHER VERNACULAR ENGLISHES IN EDUCATION: A BIBLIOGRAPHIC RESOURCE, edited by John R. Rickford, Julie Sweetland, Angela E. Rickford, and Thomas Grano (Routledge and NCTE, 2013), a bibliography in which two of my publications about Walter Ong's work and literacy are listed, a topic I will return to momentarily.
The editors have constructed a continuous bibliography with all works listed alphabetically by the author's surname (pages 65-304). In addition to providing a complete bibliographic entry, the editors have supplied a coded way of understanding the topic(s) covered in each item. The codes after each bibliographic entry are explained in detail in the section titled "Topic Overviews and Short Citation Lists" (pages 1-64). This subsection also includes a complete alphabetized list of authors whose works are classified in each coded category (topic) and the dates of each author's work listed in each category (topic). Thanks to the coded topics, there are a number of different ways in which people can use this extensive bibliography, just as there are a number of different ways in which people can use Mostert's bibliography.
Next, I should mention that many bibliographic entries are followed by abstracts, but not all entries included abstracts. For example, only one of the two entries about my publications includes an abstract.
This brings me to comment on the abstract about my 1983 article in which I use Walter Ong's work and discuss literacy and cognitive development as measured by standardized IQ tests. At the end of the bibliographic entry for my 1983 article, the editors have added the following statement in parentheses: "(Abstract graciously provided by Thomas Farrell.)" However, even though I did send John Rickford in linguistics at Stanford University an abstract to accompany each of my two publications that are listed in the bibliography, I did not provide the abstract that appears on page 135.
To be sure, the abstract on page 135 does indeed include certain points from each of the two abstracts that I sent Professor Rickford. But those selected points have been meshed together with incorrect and mistaken statements that I did not make and that do not accurately reflect anything I said or anything that Eric A. Havelock said. Havelock says nothing about genetic factors, but one sentence in the published abstract on page 135 indicates that he did and that I did also. On the contrary, I explicitly and emphatically argued against a possible genetic explanation and in favor of an environmental explanation.
Finally, I want to point out to people who are interest in the study of literacy that both Mostert's bibliography and this bibliographic resource the focus at least in part on literacy. When we consider these two new bibliographies together, we can see that the last half century or so has included studies of literacy on an unprecedented scale.
